The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of age and gender on utilized COF during non-slip pedestrian gait. Sixty healthy adults were divided into three groups by age (10 males and 10 females in each age group): Young ( y.o.); Middle-aged ( y.o.); and Senior ( y.o.). Medoff H, Fleisher DH, Di Pilla S. A laboratory study utilizing new techniques for assessing slip severity was conducted to investigate the process of inadvertent slips and falls among different age groups. Forty-two subjects from three age groups (young adults, middle-aged, and the elderly) walked on a rectangular track at a self-determined pace. Without the subjects’ awareness, a slippery floor surface was placed on the. Assessment of slip severity among different age groups. Metrology of Pedestrian Locomotion and Slip Resistance. Slip resistant means "the provision of adequate slip resistance to reduce the likelihood of slip for pedestrians using reasonable care on the walking surface under expected use conditions" (ASTM. Literature has shown a general trend that slip resistance performance improves with floor surface roughness. However, whether slip resistance properties are linearly correlated with surface topographies of the floors or what roughness levels are required for effective slip resistance performance still remain to be answered.

Forty-two subjects from three age groups (young adults, middle-aged, and the elderly) walked on .Background. Increasing the slip resistance of floor surfaces would be desirable, but there is a lack of evidence on whether traction properties are linearly correlated with the topographic features of the floor surfaces or what scales of surface roughness are required to effectively control the slipperiness of floors.
